Beauty Changes Lives and CND | Tippi Hedren Nail Scholarship Program awarded scholarships to five students enrolled in professional nail education programs. Each student will receive up to $5,000 toward tuition for a qualifying program. Administered by the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation and funded by CND, this scholarship program pays tribute to actress and humanitarian Tippi Hedren. Hedren is widely credited with launching the Vietnamese nail movement in the U.S. after the fall of Saigon, and she has helped thousands of displaced refugees find rewarding careers in the professional nail industry. “At CND, we are always looking for ways to advance the state of the industry and elevate nails and beauty as a rich and rewarding profession,” says Jan Arnold, cofounder and style director for CND. “It is so important to invest in the future of our industry by providing quality education, guidance, and opportunity to next gen talent. I never underestimate the incredible skill and character it takes to be a successful nail professional in today’s world, and it is up to us all to help pave the way for aspiring artists who are following their dreams.” This year’s five winners and schools include:

  • Joelle Bettura, Casals Aveda Institute (Austintown, OH)
  • Christina Hammon, Casals Aveda Institute (Austintown, OH)
  • Jackie Kutchel, Casals Aveda Institute (Austintown, OH)
  • Karen Lazenby, Paul Mitchell The School Columbus (OH)
  • Jasmine Walters, Creative Images Institute of Cosmetology (Dayton, OH)

This scholarship program is for prospective and new students entering a nail program at a qualifying nail technology school. Competition rounds are open each spring and fall and a panel of judges selects the winners by evaluating their personal essays, inspirational quotes, and inspiration boards. “Jan Arnold and the CND team have been integral in supporting the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation with generous gifts of time, talent, and treasure,” says Lynelle Lynch, president of the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation. “CND clearly embraces the convergence of art, philanthropy, and service that defines this industry.”
