After earning a film degree in college, Nazia struggled to find a career that fit right. Her struggle ended when watched the TV program “Face Off.” The show opened Nazia’s eyes to the “sheer amount of thought and creativity and the revelation of how vast and forever expanding the make-up artistry is,” says Nazia in her scholarship essay. Her application included a portfolio of original character and make-up designs she looks forward to bringing to life upon entering the professional make-up industry.

Essay:

Beauty is my passion because it is where I found myself to finally belong. I have always wanted to work in the film industry, but I was unsure of my role in it. I spent countless hours in college only to graduate with a pseudo film degree. In this pursuit, I took the opportunity to attempt every film position available to me, and with every venture I found myself unsatisfied. I knew I belonged here, but I still could not find my niche.
I did not appreciate make-up for the artistic endeavor that I now know it is, but everything changed when I stumbled upon the TV show “Face Off.” That is when I learned that everything that entails creature make-up effects is “make-up”. The sheer amount of thought and creativity behind it, the revelation of how vast and forever expanding the make-up artistry medium fascinates me. I am taking a chance on myself and starting anew.
My career in beauty will fulfill my purpose because I will be able to contribute to the makeup artist community with my own ideas, thus leaving my footprint in the world of make-up. My vision board displays original character and make-up designs that I created in hopes of bringing them to life one day. To see them before me, and realize the fruition of my imagination will help me fulfill my purpose. My goal is not to perfect, but to learn and continuously improve.
