Jessica Olson’s essay: Education is like an addiction to me. I genuinely love learning. I want to learn everything I can to help, treat, beautify, and make people feel amazing in their own skin, this is all my life passions that intertwine in a mix perfect for inspiration. Beauty and wellness has made me open my eyes to endless education. In my future I will enable my passion for learning, to attain my career goal, perfecting and mastering my craft of skin care in the salon and spa side, then ultimately to the medical side to further my education more under a physician, and finally opening my own business. I intend to educate clients about the level of our industry, because it stretches so much further than just spas and relaxation. This time frame is about craving the quickest high quality results you can achieve with treatments. I want people to learn that changing their skin is a process from internally, externally, and emotionally for achieving the ultimate results. I plan on making a difference by taking time to educate each and every client to the vast of my knowledge.
Lindsay Rae’s essay: I have always had a passion for health and wellness. After a near-death car accident last year, life abruptly changed and I had to learn to walk again. After recovering, I started over and discovered what path has the potential for fulfillment and giving back. Esthetics aligns with my passion for health. I love the idea of helping people recover and feel healthy especially those who struggle with disease and scars. After my struggle to regain health, this scholarship gives me an opportunity to contribute to others. Caring for our bodies, inside and out, is key to nourishing the soul.
Amy Jensen’s Essay:
I am honored to share my story with you in hopes of obtaining a scholarship toward my esthetics education. I am a 37 year old single mom of two beautiful children. My daughter Haylee is 9, and my son Nolan is 5. They are my joy and strength. Three years ago I went through a very difficult divorce, and I got out of a mentally abusive relationship. Since then, I have been on a journey of self-discovery.
During this time, I have realized I entered back into a career in the insurance industry because it felt safe and secure in a season where everything was difficult. I found my days were just “tick” marks on a calendar, I felt no satisfaction or fulfillment in my work. What I did know, is that I wanted to touch lives. I wanted to give someone a sense of confidence, peace and empowerment in a world that can be very difficult to navigate. I also knew I loved the beauty industry, trying new products and putting my best face forward.
I went back and forth for many months before I took the plunge and applied at Penrose Academy. I was fearful of how I was going to make this work. Would I be able to make ends meet while committing to three full days in school? Would I have enough time for my kids while juggling school and work? Would I have the support of my family if I make the decision to give up a steady job? The excuses kept coming. Then one day I was struck with a sense of peace and discernment and I knew that only I could make myself happy. In order to make my dreams a reality, I had to take ownership, and I took a step out in faith.
I have enjoyed every day I am at Penrose, in fact most days I don’t want to leave. I love working one on one with clients in the student spa and educating them on skin care. I also love encouraging my classmates as we learn our new skill. I am so excited for my new career and the amazing journey I am on. I want to make my children proud, and I want to be an example of how hard work and courage can make your dreams become a reality. God, my family and friends, and the community at Penrose are all on my side. I know I have what it takes to be successful in my new life!
