Spring 2019 MUD Make-Up Designory Scholarship Winners Announced

MUD Make-Up Designory is helping four esthetic and professional make-up students pursue their dream of a career in beauty. Winners of the MUD Make-up Designory scholarship administered by Beauty Changes Lives will each receive a $2,500 tuition scholarship. The Spring 2019 winners are as follows:

Rachel Brewersdorf, Wichita, KS, IG @aestheticswithrachel

As an aspiring makeup artist, Rachel says make-up is a tool that unlocks her creativity as it brings forth the beautiful features of each client. “Beauty gives women a boost of confidence, helping them be beautiful in who they are,” Rachel says in her scholarship essay. As a career, Rachel says make-up artistry helps her to live out her passion, using her art to boost client’s confidence. “Feeling like I never work a day in my life while knowing that people trust me to boost their confidence is one of the greatest ways I can fulfill my life purpose,” she says.

Kaitlyn Cuccovia, Westown, NY, IG @k_xlyn

In her scholarship essay, Kaitlyn shares how pop culture, style and inspiration from the past to inspire her art. “As a young woman, I often look at the past through the lens of my own life and in magazine editorials, music videos and pop art to inspire my personal aesthetic,” she says. “I am thankful for past influences that help me move my art forward into the future,” she says. Kaitlyn aspires to use her make-up education to create art in a runway/media/editorial setting.

Iona Darling, Milton Hills, NH, IG @iona_dancer_

Iona’s scholarship application video describes her as an “aspiring ballerina, aspiring beautician and lover of all things beautiful.” Similar to how she views dance as an art to bring forth beauty into the world around her, Iona says a career as an esthetician and skincare specialist will allow her to share her client’s beauty with the world.

Tanaya Montgomery, Spring Valley, NY

Tanaya’s inspiration board and essay speak about the “3 P’s” of beauty – passion, peace and pride. “My purpose is to make society more aware and inclusive of all skin shades,” says Tanaya. Her essay notes that many high-end cosmetic brands do not carry products for darker complexions. “I plan to use makeup as a tool to showcase beauty across the spectrum of complexion shades,” Tanaya says.

Amarra Rosania, Philadelphia, PA, IG@amarra_rosania

In her application video, Amarra says the make-up artistry scholarship is moving her “a step closer to changing the world one brushstroke at a time.” She notes that beauty and make-up provide a platform for connecting diverse beauty while defying conventional standards that limit beauty’s expression. “As artists, we can take hold of our creativity. With this scholarship, I am empowered to say, ‘I can. I did. And I am,” says Amarra.

Scholarship winners were selected by a panel of beauty professionals. Each applicant was required to submit a three-minute video or inspiration board and essay describing beauty would help fulfill their purpose and change lives. “These winners illustrate the passion, creativity and drive that fuel artists, particularly those working in the beauty sector,” says Lynelle Lynch, president of the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation. “The generosity of MUD Make-Up Designory is making it possible for these winners to pursue their passion and succeed in a purposeful career.”
