2020 Chris Baran GPS Scholarship Recipient

Being in the right time at the place . . . Looking back on the events of the past year, Chris Baran GPS Mentorship Winner Kelly Bowen sees how receiving the GPS mentoring experience occurred at exactly the right place.

Time and Place

As an artistic team member for Moroccanoil, I was so excited to be selected for the Beauty Changes Lives Experience. I started researching the organization and learned about the scholarship and the chance to learn from a mentor like Chris Baran. I was so excited – but then Covid happened. Pivot time!

Winning the scholarship could not have come at a better time for me as an educator. As Chris mentored me digitally, I was able  to pivot and transition my education to a digital format. Without the scholarship/mentoring experience, I would not have been able to make the transition to digital. Just thinking about how events unfolded at the right time and place brings tears to my eyes.

Looking to the Future

As I think about 2021, I’m looking forward to travelling with the artistic team again, attending events like the Beauty Changes Lives Experience and reconnecting in non-virtual settings. And I’m also seeing the sliver lining in this moment. Less travel has provided more time for me to spend with my husband and three kids. It’s really a balance.

Superpower – Positivity

Positivity is essential. Without positivity, it’s impossible to find the balance. Beauty has changed my life by allowing me to seeing my passion as a hairstylist differently. True beauty is inside and my passion is to help that inner beauty radiate outward.
